This is a brothel during the day, at night just a hotel. Cheap rooms that are clean, bathrooms are in the hall but are spotlessly clean and new tile. Wireless internet and cable t.v. that includes several english language channels including CNN. There is a kitchen downstairs for guests use... few guests use it but its quite functional. Theres a supermarket one block away. The management speaks little english but manage to communicate pretty well. The girls there (working) during the day include some cuties, but little english is spoken. Price is 10,000 colones (about US 18) for a half hour. You get three keys: outside gate, main door and your room key. If you get there and the gates closed reach in the opening in the wrought iron gate and push the button to get attention. Good value and clean. One caveat: the showers are european contact type and dont really give hot water. Get ready for some cold showers! NOTE: turn the water on to the minimum and it should come out fairly hot.

A great place to hang out and get local information from American expats and local Ticos. Lots of world travelers and backpackers too, as a hostel is right next door. Decent grub including chili and hotdogs as well as local fare. They sell the local English language newspaper there. One heads up, after about 9 PM the girls you see on the street corners in that neighborhood aren't girls. Don't walk around drunk and alone at night in that neighborhood... keep alert.

This is an interesting little "massage parlor" on Calle 7 in Barrio Amon. The girls are mostly Nicaraguan with the occasional Colombian. A half hour is 12,000 colones (about $22. US) They will initially give you only the one hour price...(24,000) ask for media hora precio). The girls speak pretty much only spanish. Some hotties here if you like them dark. You will find different girls there on different days... if you see one you like move on it then. Not the cleanest rooms, but safe and secure. Just one caveat, this area is not safe to walk at night. Use a cab, they are cheap and safe. A few blocks down hill from there it can be dodgy even during the day. Keep alert!
